Library Information

Greek Library of Bristol

Our Community operates a lending Greek Library, open to everyone, mostly beneficial to students at the Greek School.

The Library is located within the School premises and is run by a team of volunteers.

Although access to the Library is free for the pupils, they still need to register with the Library to borrow books. Parents are asked to provide consent for this, as part of the annual school registration process.

The Library also has books for preschool age children and adults.

Library Programme for the School

The library team runs a targeted programme for the school and visits the classrooms regularly to inspire Greek learning through reading for pleasure.

This is aligned with the curriculum needs, includes storytime sessions, discussions on pupils’ readings and other activities of intellectual engagement depending on the students’ age and reading level.

The programme was historically set up with the endorsement of the Educational Commission of Cyprus (KEA) and we work closely with the teachers to implement it. The programme is dynamic and evolving and we constantly look to improve it.

Children’s books

The children’s stock counts more than 2,000 books spread across four categories: Παιδική Λογοτεχνία, Παιδικό Εκπαιδευτικό, Μυθολογία-Ιστορία-Παιδικό και Comics.

The books are in Greek and occasionally bilingual. The children can borrow 1 book at a time through this programme and keep it for up to a month.

The Library makes every effort to monitor the content of books that your child brings home. However, if you do not approve you are welcome to kindly return them to the Library. If you have any special requests regarding which books the child may borrow, you must contact the library or the head teacher.
